The Journey Towards My 1st Marathon

About Me

My Life

My name is Joey, I’m 23 years old and live in Broomfield, Colorado. I work for my dad’s company D&E Steel Services, I’ve worked here since July of 2006. My dad obviously owns his own company and my mom works for an independent insurance agency. I have an older brother who is a professional gambler, he just recently moved to Vegas to pursue his dreams. In 2007 he won Pokerstars’ biggest weekly tourney, you can read all about it here. Now about me, I was born into a family of competitive people and I myself became one very fast. In my life I’ve played baseball, football, soccer, basketball, golf and bowling. In high school I played football (Freshman), Golf (Sophomore), Baseball (Junior & Senior) & my greatest love Basketball (All Four Years). After high school I decided to follow a couple of friends who had Football Scholarships to the University of Kearney in Nebraska, my plan was to try out for the basketball team but laziness set in out there and I was pretty bored and couldn’t see myself living in Kearney for the next 4 years so I decided to transfer to the University of Colorado. I lived on the hill with a friend in Boulder which if you don’t know is the best place to live on campus. I learned very quickly when I was there that college just wasn’t for me, I didn’t like any class I had and didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life so I dropped out. After my short college stint I met my wonderful girlfriend Lauren, we’ve been together 3 years now and she is so amazing and beautiful! I’m still really into bowling and play in adult basketball and slow pitch softball leagues.

Food

In the last year or so Lauren and I have started to cook meals a lot and just recently we’ve been cooking every night! Lauren has got obsessed over food and she has her own blog called laurenlovesgoodfood, you can click on the link and follow what we eat for dinner! When we first started we didn’t know much about what we were eating and we were not watching how much we were spending but now I’d like to think we know what were doing, but we’re still learning as we go!

EXERCISE

Ever since I was a young’n I’ve loved to be active, I didn’t play video games that much and I was always making up games to play with my bro and the neighbor kids and not to mention all the sports that kept me VERY busy. There is one thing I’ve always loved to do which is running! I love it because it’s a way for me to be with myself and with nature I HATE running to music It takes away everything that I believe running gives you. I used to run in the 5K Holy Cow DARE run every year from 10-14 years old. I had a lot of fun running competitively. Then I got into HS sports and never had much time to just run and enjoy myself. In May of 2010 Lauren and I signed up for the 5K Homerun for the Homeless race at Coors Field which was a lot of fun which then got us to sign up for the 10K BolderBoulder which was one of the most fun races you can run. As I get with many things I am totally obsessed with running now and have decided to do a Marathon in Denver on October 17th 2010.
